Petros Taverna opens fifth location in Lachine

Lifelong restaurateur Ted Dranias continues to expand his Petros Taverna brand, with his fifth location now open  in  Lachine at 600 Saint Joseph Boulevard.

Max Terriault, Ted Dranias and Gennaro Dranias.

In May 2015,  Dranias opened his first Petros, specializing in Greek cuisine, on Notre Dame Street in Griffintown. The name was a tribute to his late father (named Petros), who always wanted to have a Greek restaurant of his own. In December 2016 a second Petros was established at the corner of Sherbrooke Street and Grosvenor in Westmount followed by   Petros Laurier in the spring of 2019.  Then, in September 2020, Jardin Petros debuted in Little Italy. In the fall of 2021 he opened  Scarpetta on Dante  in the heart of  Little Italy. Within the next few months, the first US-based location will open its doors at La Mer Condominium in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Despite a labour shortage in the restaurant industry, Dranias has addressed that challenge by giving some of his trusted staff people ownership stakes in each Petros location.  The restaurants all have  rooms for private functions. An entire restaurant can be rented out for special occasions or community organization fundraisers. Dranias himself can often be found working in the kitchen.

In Lachine,  the kitchen  will be overseen by two longtime chefs  from Estiatorio Milos:  Picklo Dey spent 16 years at the Avenue du Parc location in Montreal’s Mile End while Stergios Karagianakis  most recently worked at the New York City locale.

The location, which formerly housed  La Strada, has been extensively renovated. It can seat 190   people with  a VIP room and a  seasonal terrasse  facing the river with the capacity for  100 people. The restaurant will be open every night except Monday, from 5 pm to 11 pm.  For reservations call   514-538-1211. There is also free parking in a lot next door. Max Terriault, who owned La Strada, is now a partner with Dranias at Petros Lachine.

CJAD Morning Show host Andrew Carter drops by Lachine.

Petros has great starters, such as the Greek spread medley (any four spreads such as taramosalata, tirokafteri and tzatziki); Greek Penicillin ( mashed potatoes slightly seasoned with garlic and olive oil), exceptional salads, soups, octopus and of course an array of fresh fish selections, steaks, lamb chops, veal, moussaka  and a  whole lot more. For dessert , the homemade loukoumades, little yeast-risen dough drizzled with honey syrup and accompanied by some yogurt and baklava, are the favorites.
